Farmer's Hut of Nigeria
It consists of a single room. It
is built very simply. Thick branches of trees are stuck and joined at their
tops and fastened tightly by ropes. Thus they acquire the shape of a cone. The
spaces between the branches are filled up with straw. Similarly the roof is
also thatched with a thick layer of straw, grass, reeds and palm leaves.
Towards the sun a small opening is left for entrance as well as for light
during daytime. These huts have open courtyards where women cook food, children
play and fowls pick up grain and worms. The farmers sleep inside the huts on
mud-plastered floors spreading mats over them.
